Screamer_Hardstyle: What iz your real name?
My real name is Villyvian van Tiel, but
because Villyvian is such a difficult name and 90% of the people can’t pronounce
it, everybody just calls me Vil.
Screamer Hardstyle: How old are you?
I’m 26 years old.
Screamer Hardstyle: Which came first... the production or
the DJing?
I started mixing somewhere in 1992. At that time I was mixing with on
the left side a old turntable from my parents (without a pitch) and on the other
side a CD-Player also without a pitch. I was looking for tracks with exact the
same BPM. Even before I found them, I was already a couple of hours further… But
then I had one change-over that was very good. When Hardcore became popular I
went crazy and bought two turntables with Pitch. Then the spinning for me really
started. Because a few friends and me where the first in Den Helder introducing
hardcore, we were playing on a lot of local party’s. It was a great time! A few
years later I started to produce. It was very simple with “Fasttracker”. Later
on I bought my own equipment.
Screamer Hardstyle: How did
you get into hardstyle music?
There was a time that I didn’t feel happy in the
hardcore scène, which was due to the environment on party’s. There were a lot of
fighting’s in that period. And it also had to do with less good hardcore tracks
that came out. At that time I decided to look for other styles besides hardcore.
I started to play heavy German hardtrance. This style developed itself slowly
into Hardstyle and I followed. A few years ago I produced my first hardstyle
track. Dj Luna heard this track on a party where I had to spin and he suggested
to produce together. A week later we were sitting in the (then still very small)
studio and everything after that went really fast. It was possible to release
our tracks directly on the Q-Dance label and on StraightOn Recordings. Because
of that we conquer a place in the hardstyle scène.
Screamer_Hardstyle:
Do you only play hardstyle Music?
No, I still play some hardcore. Not early rave as many
hardstyle Dj’s do it, but the new hardcore. I buy hardcore vinylz every week to
keep up. I also think the new hardcore is really awesome. Technically the music
is very good. I really can appreciate that. Besides Hardstyle and Hardcore I
also spin some heavy tech-trance. I just like it to play different styles.
People in the Netherlands are often not open minded and stay with one particular
style. I also did that in the former days, but now I’m glad that I can
appreciate the other styles!
Screamer_Hardstyle: What are your plans for the
development of your career?
I have a lot of plans. I came a long way in the last few years, but
I’m not there yet. To start, I want to perform on parties like Defqon.1, Q-Base
or Qlimax. I will work very hard to reach that. I am still a little bit young
compared to the “big guys”. So I have fait that I will reach this goal. I also
want to produce full time. At this moment I’m still producing part time, but of
course I’m feeling a lot happier when I am working in the studio. That’s why I
want to stop working this year and want to produce more. More Hardstyle releases
but also other styles. I also want to release a Hardcore vinyl with Trilok and
we are also going to produce a Trance release. Just like an All-round producer.
A better job I can’t imagine!
Screamer_Hardstyle: Which hardstyle
dj/producer are kicking your ass?
Of course Trilok and Luna. We are really have the same idea about
music. These guys are really cool to work with. I also have respect for Thilo.
He has his own style of producing and spinning. I think he will be one of the
“Big guyz” in the future. And of course I have respect for the whole StraightOn
Family. When we have to play in a foreign country, we always have a great time.
StraightOn is not only a record label, but also a real team. And of course we
can’t forget MC Da Mouth of Madness. Sietse is the main MC of DHHD, and besides
a very good MC he is a very cool guy to work with. He Kickz ass!
Screamer_Hardstyle:
What are you favorite Parties?
Yes, those are the parties from Q-Dance. These people understand how
to give a party.
Q-Dance stands for quality. They have there own special way to give a show at
their party’s. This is very particular for this organization, what makes it very
special.
Unfortunately I’m not playing very often at their biggest party’s, but I’m
waiting for that moment to come. On May 21 I’m performing at the Gelredome
during the “One Man Show” of Luna also presented by Q-Dance. I’m very happy
about that.
Thunderdome is also one of my favorite party’s. I grew up with it, and I still
visit it every year. The last Thunderdome was really cool. Nice underground!
Screamer_Hardstyle:
Do you have your
own studio for producing, if so… what equipment do you use?
Yes, together with Trilok and luna I have the DHHD studio. We use the
following Hardware:
Virus C (this synth has a lot of possibilities. I love it!)
Virus B
Roland JP8000
Nordlead 3
Novation Supernova
Elektron drum module (Very cool Drum module)
808 drummodule
909 drummodule
EMU 6400 sampler
AKAI s3000 sampler
Soundcraft digital mixer
Lexicon effect module
TC Electronic Finalizer
And about 8 external compressors
And we are going to expand on the software area now, I expect a lot of new
possibilities.
Screamer_Hardstyle: What do you do when you're not
produce or DJing?
I am coordinator training and educations for a big call centre
company.
I like the job, but my hart is with the music, so I think I won’t be doing this
job very long. I don’t have time for other things. Working, producing, and
spinning. They fill my whole week up. That’s why I want to stop working. Then I
have more time left to visit my friends. I can’t do that very often right now.
Screamer_Hardstyle: How often do you play at parties?
I play every week. The amount of performance for each week is
different. Normally its around 1 or 2 performances each week. But we also have a
weekend coming with 5 different performances! So its going all right and I’m
very happy about it. When I don’t have a performance in the weekend, I feel
down. I just want to spin the records and let the people dance. It’s never
boring!
Screamer_Hardstyle:
Where have you
performed???
Innercity, Qrimetime, X-qlusive Holland, X-qlusive Luna, X-qlusive
labels en live-acts, Qlubtempo (4x), Goliath Rave (Germany), Pyramide (Poland),
Lake Parade (Switzerland), Bumpers (Loiret del Mar), 2Fast4Trance and a lot more
discotheques.
Screamer_Hardstyle:
What’z your
hardstyle top10 right now?
01. DHHD – LSD
02. Luna – Now is the time
03. Thilo en Evanti – Caution
04. Donkey Rollers – Immeasurably (its almost like hardcore)
05. Isaac – Nobody likes the records that you play
06. Showtek – Chorus (Its still a great traxx)
07. dj Mystery – Type Face
08. Outlaw – Excecute
09. Max Force – Bring That Bass Home
10. Tommy Pulse – Cold Days (an old one, but still a great traxx)
Screamer_Hardstyle:
Can we expect
more productions from you soon, if so.. When???
Yes!! The new DHHD has just been released, and we are
working on our new release. The first track is finished now, and the second one
is half way. We are also going to Remix the One Man Show Anthem, which is very
cool!
Screamer_Hardstyle:
You have your
own "sound" for your productionz, so everybody recognize it... Why you think the
crowed will love your music? (I also love DHHD style)
It’s nice to hear that you also like the DHHD sound. We
always try to create a certain drive in our productions. Our vinyls are not
faster then other hardstyle vinyls, but it looks like it’s faster in a DHHD
production. That’s what I mean with “Drive”. We do this with fast melodies, fast
hihats and a lot of varieties with the sounds and drums. A track from DHHD never
will be a slow track. Its not our thing. We always keep in mind that the track
has to work in large venues. While producing, we often imagine ourselves that we
are performing for a big crowed. You have to see us jump:). On a moment like
that a lot of energy comes free and we process it in our traxx. This is the
advantage of the fact that we all 3 are dj’s who became producers later on.
