My name is Rodney Pilapil
Screamer Hardstyle: How old are you?
I’m 32 years old
Screamer Hardstyle: Which came first... the production or
the DJing?
First I started Dj-ing then spinning
Screamer Hardstyle:
How did you get
into hardstyle music?
After the hardcore period I was
asked to play in Indonesia.
I especially played Techno and Hardtrance. I eventually did a tour through
Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore. When I came back in 2000 I heard
tracks from Tracid and nukleuz for the first time…..that’s when the hardstyle
began.
Screamer_Hardstyle:
Do you only play hardstyle Music?
Mostly I spin hardstyle...I’m going to concentrate besides
hardstyle more on hardtrance in the future. I make exceptions a few times a year
for oldschool or Hardcore (94-96) sets.
Screamer_Hardstyle: What are your plans for the
development of your career?
I want to stay active in the music. Keep spinning and producing as
long as possible. I’m running a (what is growing to be a record company) with
Luna and the Scientist.
Screamer_Hardstyle: Which dj/producer(z) are the best?
Scot Project and Isaac are my favourites. These are qualitatively the
best productions.
Screamer_Hardstyle:
What are you favorite Parties?
Now that I’m doing this interview I look outside and see the sun is
shining, I think the summer outdoor parties are really cool, but smaller parties
in clubs are also fun. You are closer to your public then. The mega parties like
Qlimax are a kick for a DJ when you have 20 or 25000 people standing in front of
you. But I do think all parties are fun haha.
Screamer_Hardstyle:
Do you have your own
studio for producing, if so… what equipment do you use?
I have my own studio. I us logic and off course almost all Plug
ins........ Further i have a lot of analogue equipment like a TR 909, Akai
Samplers, effect processors etc...... to much to name. The masterpiece of the
equipment has to be the Mix table, it is a Digital Mackie de D8B.
Screamer_Hardstyle: Can we expect more productions from
you soon, if so.. When???
Before summer there are 2 more records coming out from StraightOn
Recordings.
Screamer_Hardstyle: What do you do when you're not
producing or djing?
I try to be at home with my girlfriend and with my child.
Screamer_Hardstyle:
How often do you
play at parties?
I spin every weekend in Holland or outside.
Screamer_Hardstyle:
You became a daddy a
short time ago, Congratulations man!!! Can you combine this with spinning and
producing?
It has been hard, because in the beginning the baby is awake a lot at
night. You would think it is easy to combine the 2, but you don't get enough
sleep during the week and the weekend approaches......... I get home at 7 in the
morning and I have to start taking care of the baby again...... eventually I
don't get enough sleep, but it is worth it though.
Screamer_Hardstyle: The StraightOn label is a success, are
there any records coming out under the label?
We off course we have StraightOn red where pure Hardstyle is going to
be released on, Since StraightOn Black we have heard crossovers between Techno,
hardtrance en hardstyle... This is really a unique sound. And not so long ago we
started a Hardtrance label named “Privilege Recordings” with Bas en Ram. Shortly
you can expect some new records from that label from artists like Bas en Ram,
Dark by Design , Pila and much more.........
Screamer_Hardstyle:
Where have you
performed?
In have spun at most places in Holland. We notice that
hardstyle is also making its mark in other countries. I have spinning
appointments in Germany, Poland, Estonia, Switzerland and Spain and there are a
few invitations.
Screamer_Hardstyle:
What is your
Hardstyle Top 10?
Pfff. Hard to say, Because
I usually spin old productions. I will think about it and when I get it I'll get
back to you.
