VX @ Sun Zero – that’s the new project of André Vanox and
Estepan del Sol. The two German DJs and producers stand for
massive and driving sounds at maximum rotation: Hardstyle,
Hardbass and Progressive-Trance. They do not only act as DJs
and producers, but also perform live acts.
Estepan del Sol is a DJ and producer from Heidelberg. At the
end
of the 80s, he started to develop his passion for electronic
music, influenced by various mix tapes from the former
famous “Dorian
Gray Club” at Frankfurt Airport. In 1992, he bought his
first
Technics 1210 turntables.
Not quite a year later, he had his first residency as a DJ
in a club
near Karlsruhe. At that time, he was only playing
Breakbeats.
However, his musical development was not nearly over yet. In
the
following time, he started to enjoy Speed-Garage, House, and
finally
Trance.
After a while, he realized that DJing was not enough for
him. He
wanted to create his own music. In order to achieve this
wish, he
started to concentrate on producing his own tracks in the
following
time. And finally, it paid off. In collaboration with DJ
Pacecord he
stormed the German Dance Charts in 2001 with “Into My
Brain”.
The following single “The Power of Trance”, including a
Norman DJ
Mix, also got right away into the charts and was played
among
others by famous DJs like Paul van Dyk.
Between November 2000 and November 2001, Estepan del Sol
hosted his own radio show on “Bermudafunk” in Mannheim.
André Vanox’ (a.k.a. John Miles) had laid the foundations
for his
musical career when he was only 12 years old. Even then, he
was
highly interested in music, in those times especially in
Heavy Metal.
His early detected addiction to sounds and beats finally led
to the
purchase of a guitar.
Only two years later, the band called “Tiamat” was founded.
Their
release “Wildhoney” (1994) aroused André’s interest in
synthesizer
sounds. After numerous successful performances and some
quarrels with his band members, he decided to leave the band
and
to reorientate himself in terms of music.
In 1996, he played the guitar and the bass in the production
of
the soundtrack to the short movie “Pearls”. His interest in
Techno
aroused, when electronic elements started to influence metal
music.
In 1999, André finally met Casseopaya at a party. He visited
him in
his studios and became incredibly curious about this new
kind of
music.
“Techno, yes, that was it,” André recalls. He specially
liked the
countless possibilities to mix cool elements together. You
no longer
have to import a track 30 times, or even more often, when
you have
an off day, and you have complete visual control over the
sounds.
This boosts creativity and you can work faster and more
effectively
right from the start. He is familiar with both hard sounds,
and soft
melodies from his time in the band, and he also tries to
draw a bow
between these two in his Techno music.
Stately and spheric melodies go hand in hand with hard bass.
Anyway, his music is far from cheap showmanship. It has to
be a
perfect mixture of beautiful melodies and the sound of a big
truck
rolling through the city. At the beginning, André could not
really
acquire a taste for DJing, because he was convinced that
this was
not a way for him to express himself musically. In the
middle of 1999,
however, he definitely changed his attitude, when he was at
a club
owned by one of his friends. There he discovered the records
of the
club’s resident DJ, the turntables, the mixer, and finally
his passion
for spinning.
“I still can remember that I tinkered around with the stuff
like 2 hours
to find out how the mixing works. I actually had no idea,
what I
wanted to do exactly. But the next day, things changed. I
had
watched the DJ at his work the night before and suddenly I
knew
how to do it. I have to admit that my first opinion of
mixing records
was wrong,” says André. A few time later, he had his first
performances on the turntables, representing his own idea of
music. |
